Studio 31 Media Archive's video: WEEK 25 News at 6:00 Full 1 14 2021

@WEEK 25 News at 6:00 (Full), 1/14/2021
Complete 6pm newscast from the Quincy Media-owned NBC affiliate covering Central Illinois including Peoria and Bloomington. Requested by Patrick Huber. WEEK-TV is usually the market leader in Central Illinois. Even when Granite neglected the station in its final years (they weren't a bad company at first, it was when private equity got involved that killed them), WEEK still led the ratings. CBS affiliate WMBD owned by Nexstar has been closing the gap in recent years. It took Quincy to finally bring the station up to modern stations with HD production, a new set and new look. They also pretty much forced out the Granite-era anchors and hired their own people for the new "25 News" (they were "News 25" under Granite). This has helped reinforce WEEK's leadership position in the market. It's a typical small-market newscast. I guess if I was there I'd watch this. WMBD's newscast is of similar quality. Can't really say one is better than the other. The graphics are Quincy's 2016 group package. No clue who designed them. Music is 360 from Stephen Arnold and the voiceover is Craig Klein. Anchored by Tyler Lopez and Amber Krycka, chief meteorologist Chuck Collins, and sports director Jim Mattson. Mattson is the only former WHOI talent still working at WEEK following their 2008 takeover of former ABC affiliate WHOI. WEEK absorbed some of the WHOI staff (about 4 of the anchors) and fired the rest. Longtime WEEK sports director Lee Hall and Mattson eventually swapped stations (Hall eventually left the duopoly in 2017 to take a job outside of television). He modified his longtime introduction from "Hello Heart of Illinois" to "Hello Central Illinois" after the station change (because I guess you're only allowed to say "Heart of Illinois" on the ABC affiliate there). Includes reports from Paige Blanzy, Gabi Guerrero, and Luke Burdsall ("You Gotta Eat"). Commercials are edited out, station promos have been retained. Select sports highlights, specifically during the "Jim Dandy" segment, have been blacked out due to copyright restrictions. ©2021 Quincy Media and WEEK-TV, no copyright infringement intended.
