Studio 31 Media Archive's video: WBOY 12 News First Edition Full 3 7 2022 New Graphics Set

@WBOY 12 News First Edition (Full), 3/7/2022 (New Graphics/Set)
Complete 5pm newscast from the Nexstar-owned NBC affiliate serving Clarksburg/Fairmont/Weston/Morgantown, WV. Recorded on Monday, March 7, 2022. This was the first newscast with their new graphics and set. WBOY becomes the third former West Virginia Media station to finally ditch that company's old graphics and set design in favor of a brand new Nexstar look and design, along with modern production equipment. Only WTRF is left, and yes, something is in the works there too. For graphics, WVNS gets the NDC-1 package, a generic version of the NBC-1 package. This is due to WBOY simulcasting all newscasts on its ABC affiliated subchannel as well. From what I understand, KTKA is the only other station to also use this package, on their ABC-exclusive shows. No changes to the logo. A slogan modification from "Working For You" to "Working For West Virginia" also took effect. Music remains Aerial from Stephen Arnold Music, but they switched to updated cuts. Paul Turner remains as the station voiceover. WBOY is the market leader, and the only former WVMH station that leads its market. This is probably because until Gray purchased WDTV, that station tended to have a poorer quality product, and the WVMH stations tended to look "polished on a budget", if that makes sense (their HD conversions were done cheaply). One thing you will probably notice is the quality of the promos — they are mostly text or logos superimposed on video or Digital Juice backgrounds with basic animations. This is because the station lacks a properly trained graphics artist. The WVMH stations historically were hubbed out of Charleston, and Nexstar undid that and added graphics artists at each of the stations. But for some reason, WBOY never hired one, and has been able to get by without one apparently (but your promos tend to get sacrificed). It's a typical small market newscast and it is pretty dull and unremarkable for what it is. Some of the directing isn't the best (with anchors abruptly appearing, for instance) but it's a smaller market, so I will cut them some slack. Anchored by Don Graye with weather from chief meteorologist Scott Sincoff. Includes reports from Hannah Brandt (Nexstar DC) and Jo Ling Kent (NBC News). Commercials are edited out, promos are retained. ©2022 Nexstar Media Inc. and WBOY-TV, no copyright infringement intended. For educational and historical purposes only.
