Full length 6pm newscast from the CBS affiliate covering the Blue Ridge region of Virginia including Roanoke, Lynchburg, the New River Valley and Danville. WDBJ is owned by Gray Media Group and historically the dominant station in the market. Requested by I'm A Office Boy. I'm not really a fan of the changes made to this station since Gray took over. They definitely feel way more generic than they did under the previous Schurz group. WDBJ had a homier feel under the previous owners. I feel like today they just lead because the main anchors have tenure and out of habit. WSLS puts out a far better product in my opinion. The one thing I do like about their otherwise cookie cutter set is their desk shaped like their "7" logo, I think that's a pretty cool touch. I also didn't realize they dropped their longtime "News 7" brand. While the voiceover just refers to this as "WDBJ7" and nothing else, the "WDBJ7 News" brand was used in their EPG listings so that's what I'm using in the title. This generic open is used on almost all of the shows (I think AM and 4pm have separate opens). Now I swear if they ditched the title "Mornin'" for their morning newscast... Historically though they led and when you look at their competition, it's pretty easy to see why, as WDBJ had the best ownership and the most stability. WSLS was a Park station who ran their stations on the cheap and deprived them of capital expenditures while operating with huge profit margins (that's why no former Park station is ever in their market even today). WLVA/WSET then as now has stayed hyperfocused on the Lynchburg side. That has allowed them to be a strong second overall and they own the eastern part of the market. WDBJ has used versions of 615 Music's Impact since 1996. They are currently using V.5 cuts. Art Edmonds is the voiceover. Anchored by Robin Reed and Jean Jadhon.
