Studio 31 Media Archive's video: WFXT Boston 25 News at 10:00 and Boston 25 Tonight Full 4 25 2022

@WFXT Boston 25 News at 10:00 and Boston 25 Tonight (Full), 4/25/2022
Complete 10pm and 11pm newscasts from the Cox-owned Fox affiliate covering Boston, Massachusetts. Recorded on Monday, April 25, 2022. I have been meaning to get something from Boston 25 in the evenings for a while now, but every time I try to do such, they ALWAYS, without fail, use their breaking news open over their regular one, so I kinda just gave up. I figured I would try again this time and of course, there was breaking news. Everything, even if it happened hours ago, is fair game to be labeled as "breaking news" by them and that is a major reason I find them hard to watch. In this show, you are reminded literally at the top of every block that the Celtics swept the Nets out of the NBA Playoffs and that was labeled as "breaking news" every f*cking time. It's extremely annoying, but I feel like WFXT is just trying to be a poor man's version of WHDH and failing miserably at it. I will give Cox credit for at least stabilizing their talent lineups. They haven't had much turnover in some time now and most of their staff is fine. The graphics are an in-house ripoff of something that Hothaus would do (it borrows a lot of elements from their last package that Hothaus did do) but are designed to be in your face with heavy usage of large, bold fonts and useless lens flares. To help with their mission of being in your face, they got Steve Kamer to do their voiceovers, replacing John Pleisse (that was also a reason why I recorded this). Stream from Stephen Arnold is the music. The 11pm newscast (included here) is branded as "Boston 25 Tonight" as an artifact when Cox tried experimenting with different formats for their 11pm newscasts at the height of the pandemic, although almost all stations have abandoned it. Here, the branding and open is still used, but that's about it. Otherwise, it's just "Boston 25 News at 11:00" essentially. That open uses a design largely based off of what WFTV in Orlando used for "WFTV Tonight" with a red, blue, and white color scheme that aligns more with WFXT's graphics and logo. Music for the Boston 25 Tonight open is a production track from Killer Tracks called "Unify". The 11pm is literally a re-rack of the 10pm half-hour with a sports segment (that is not really featured in the 10pm hour unless it's "breaking news" like it was on this night). WFXT has not done very well under Cox ownership and usually rates at the bottom of the ratings, where it is in close company with NBC Boston which has also failed in the ratings despite poaching many high-profile talent from other Boston stations. Maybe putting "Boston" in your station brand automatically means you will be rated last place? 🤔 Anchored by Vanessa Welch and Chris Flanagan (in for Mark Ockerbloom) with weather from chief meteorologist Kevin Lemanowicz, and sports was anchored by sports director Butch Stearns. Includes reports from Wale Aliyu, John Monahan, Drew Karedes, Kelly O'Grady (Fox Business), Bob Ward, Litsa Pappas, two from Kelly Sullivan, William La Jeunesse (Fox News), and Kristin Garriss (Cox Media Group Washington, DC Bureau). Commercials are edited out, station promos are retained. Multiple sports highlights throughout the show were blacked out due to copyright restrictions. ©2022 Cox Media Group and WFXT-TV, no copyright infringement intended.
