Studio 31 Media Archive's video: WOAI News 4 San Antonio at 5:00 Winter Blast Coverage 2 14 2021

@WOAI News 4 San Antonio at 5:00 Winter Blast Coverage, 2/14/2021
Our look at how stations in the South and Central Texas area are covering the historic 2021 Polar Vortex continues with a look at the Sunday night 5pm news on San Antonio's Sinclair-owned NBC affiliate. The first significant snowfall since 1985 is about to bear down on San Antonio. What local officials are telling folks what they should do, and what they're doing to prepare. Plus the Spurs, because San Antonio. This coverage has been pretty mediocre to be honest. Not as bad as KENS, but because it's Sinclair and they can't lose out on their precious ad revenue, they have not blown out primetime or overnights for extended coverage like their fellow NBC affiliate to the north did. KXAN just owned their coverage for the market and unfortunately no San Antonio station came close to the level of coverage they were doing, even though conditions here were arguably worse. Later, we'll start branching out into the Houston market, and maybe a couple of other Texas markets for good measure. However the focus will remain on Austin and San Antonio. Unfortunately due to the state instituting rolling blackouts, that has unfortunately impacted my ability to record, say, more than 30 minutes of a station at a time starting from 3am Monday. So when we start getting to the coverage from Monday it's going to be odd bits and pieces joined in progress and abruptly cut off. However I feel it is better than nothing at all since that is out of my control. Hopefully these blackouts will end sooner rather than later and I can bring you more fuller coverage. I know why they're being done, it's just frustrating though. But we're not there yet. Next, we'll show you how conditions looked earlier in the day in a morning newscast from KENS. Following that, the snow touches down in San Antonio and you'll be witness to it in that upcoming newscast. Keep it here for more to come in our continuing coverage. I hope if you're watching this, you're staying warm and off the roads, safely in the comfort of your home, and to any essential workers who must be out there, we salute you. Nothing special about the presentation here: standard Sinclair graphics and music, Steve Kamer voiceover, and the "Here 4 You" slogan they love using on everything (this station seriously takes brand reinforcement to the next level). The normal weekend crew is heading up the coverage here: anchor Robert Price, meteorologist Greg Pollak, and sports anchor John Elizondo. Chief meteorologist Chris Suchan is contributing from home. Includes reports from Morgan Burrell and Amanda Henderson. It should be noted that Burrell is doing her report literally across the street from the station. Commercials were edited out, promos were left in. Also, blacked out Spurs highlights during the sports segment due to copyright restrictions. ©2021 Sinclair Broadcast Group and WOAI-TV, no copyright infringement intended.
