Studio 31 Media Archive's video: KTVN 2News at 4 5pm Open Close Promos 12 28 2021

@KTVN 2News at 4/5pm Open/Close & Promos, 12/28/2021
On the heels of sister station WRCB in Chattanooga launching a new brand over the weekend, things remain largely unchanged for now at Sarkes Tarzian's only other television station: CBS affiliate KTVN in Reno, Nevada. Here's a look at their news open, stingers, rejoins, talent bump-outs, promos, and close all recorded within the past month. These were taken across the 4 and 5pm 2News newscasts recorded on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. The only major change that has happened recently is that KTVN now just uses two generic opens for their newscasts as opposed to giving each show their own open, which is what they were doing up until a couple of months ago. There is a day version you see here, used on the morning show cut-ins and the late afternoon news block. Then there's a night version used at 11pm and on the morning show. They are also using different cuts of Enforcer as compared to before. The graphics remain unchanged and are, for the most part, the CBS O&O package that was designed back in 2016 by Rey Rodriguez. They do not use them for weather, continuing to use their previous graphics package with the fonts in the banners changed to Gotham to match the CBS package - they look as bad and messy as you think. As mentioned, CBS Enforcer is the music, and Steve Wood is the voiceover and has been for the station since at least the early 2000s. As I've said before, I've never liked how he says "Coverage You Can Count On", he always hangs on that last "e" in "coverage" longer than he should, almost to the point sometimes it sounds like he's saying "Coverage That You Can Count On". Either way, not a fan. Their set is also lit rather darkly for what it is, but it's not terrible. Like their sister station WRCB, I think KTVN has the best product in its market, by far. However, whereas WRCB has younger management and is more willing to experiment, KTVN is far more traditional in their approach, although they had younger anchors long before WRCB. They've been there long enough to become veterans at this point, but have only been at the station since the early-mid 2000s, compared to WRCB's weeknight team who have been around since the 1980s. Also, unlike WRCB, they feel like they have a smaller staff. It is a smaller market after all, and given that Sinclair and Gray is their competition, they still manage to have a better product as Sarkes Tarzian is willing to invest in their stations (this wasn't always the case - they used to be kind of cheap a decade or so ago). Anchors featured include Arianna Bennett, Ryan Canaday, chief meteorologist Mike Alger, and sports anchor Andrew Nepsund. ©2021 Sarkes Tarzian Inc. and KTVN-TV, no copyright infringement intended.
