Studio 31 Media Archive's video: WTKR - Todd Corillo s Last Day 12 4pm 4 22 2022

@WTKR - Todd Corillo’s Last Day (12/4pm), 4/22/2022
After about a decade with the Norfolk, Virginia CBS affiliate (owned by Scripps), Todd Corillo has joined the long list of news professionals who have departed the business since the pandemic in favor of PR. In most circumstances that's routine and wouldn't get a special sendoff. However, unlike most anchors, Todd's background is a little unique: his father, Glenn Corillo (who used the stage name "Corey" on-air) was the longtime noon anchor at WTKR throughout the 80s and 90s before departing the station, and the anchor who launched the noon newscast on the station, back when it was still called WTAR-TV. Todd would end up following in his footsteps and got hired at WTKR after getting his start there as an intern. While the connection undoubtedly helped, Todd was a talented anchor and reporter in his own right. It only made sense for the station to reunite the two for the noon newscast on Todd's very last day at the station. You would think Todd had been with the station for decades with the sendoff he received although he wasn't. But he was very well-liked at the station as far as I know so it makes sense they gave him the send off they did. I thought they did a fantastic job. Not only that but his parents both met at the station (his mom worked behind the scenes), so WTKR is literally the reason he exists. So again, I completely understand the station giving him the sendoff he received. If this was anyone else who had been at the station as long as Todd had, then it would barely get a mention or not at all. Glenn only joined Todd for the noon newscast (he normally solo anchored it) while he had a regular co-anchor for the 4pm already: Pari Cruz. I included both because they still gave him great send-offs on both. Both ntropolis and Mihai Tripp alerted me to this and said I should record this, so this is for them primarily. This is also the first thing I have ever recorded from the Hampton Roads market (surprisingly). I do plan on getting the other two stations at some point. I do like what I see from WTKR. Their product is solid, story selection is good, and their talent is really good as well. Their team finally began to stabilize under the Tribune and Scripps-eras, largely after WTVR's general manager was tapped to run WTKR as well (I think that was supposed to be temporary but it continues to this day, despite an ownership change). They have come a LONG way from their infamous "YOUR NewsChannel 3" era or their era where they had hideous HD graphics that tried too hard to look like a video game. Anchored by Todd Corillo, Glenn "Corey" Corillo (noon), Pari Cruz (4pm), and weather from meteorologist Maddie Kirker. Includes reports from Penny Kmitt, Angela Bohon, Brendan Ponton, chief meteorologist Patrick Rockey, Antoinette DelBel, and Megan Plain. Sendoffs for Todd were presented by morning anchors Blaine Stewart and Jessica Larché at noon, and by Barbara Ciara and Kurt Williams at 4pm. Graphics are Scripps' standardized look, music is Scripps' custom package from Stephen Arnold Music (they are the only station to use the themes originally intended for just Scripps' Florida24 Network), and Jeff Laurence is voiceover. Commercials were edited out, station promos were left in. ©2022 E.W. Scripps Company and WTKR-TV, no copyright infringement intended. For educational and historical purposes only.
