Studio 31 Media Archive's video: KCTV5 News at 10:00 Full 11 14 2021

Complete 10pm newscast (delayed to 10:32pm due to football and program overruns) from the then Meredith, now Gray-owned CBS affiliate in Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas, recorded Sunday, November 14, 2021. Just figured I'd get something from KCTV in its final days before it was sold to Gray. KCTV has struggled in the ratings for most of its history and is currently in third from what I understand, although it may have moved up to second. The station has struggled to retain talent either because they move on or the station does not renew them. They have also gone through news directors quicker than some people go through toilet paper. The news director at the time this was recorded just left and was replaced with someone from another Gray station, so the company is likely making its stamp on the station. Personally, I don't care for Gray as a company at all (they are my least favorite large chain), so I don't have high hopes for the station, but it's not like they will do worse than Meredith did. They do have some talented people, including who they claim to be "Kansas City's Longest Running Morning Team" (they've only been together since 2016, which says more about the state of the industry now than anything else). Graphics are from the Meredith hub and will probably be replaced by inferior Gray graphics eventually. Voiceover is Steve Stone. Music is CBS Enforcer from Gari Music. One thing that bothered me (I guess not necessarily their fault) is that they took the entire post-game Chiefs press conference, which I edited out here because that is not compelling television in my opinion. That entire thing took 31 minutes out of the newscast. So all of the news content was only 14-15 minutes at most. They immediately went into their "Locker Room Show" after the news, which I left in the open for but am not posting the full show since it's mostly sports highlights. Anchored by Nathan Vickers, with weather from meteorologist Alena Lee. Dani Welniak is the sports director who is seen briefly leading out of the Chiefs presser and hosting the Locker Room Show.
