On April 16, 2022, retired longtime WRC-TV (Washington, DC NBC O&O) 5pm anchor Wendy Rieger passed away at the age of 65 from Glioblastoma, a vicious form of brain cancer. She had just retired from the station a few months ago. Here is a look at how the station covered the loss of one of their own last night. Honestly, they did a very good job, and Wendy would be proud of their coverage. They also did a good job balancing out the newscast with other breaking events, weather, and some lighter stuff as well, to keep this from overwhelming the show too much (I imagine it was already a tough day at the station and they needed the lighter stuff to help take their minds off of that for a bit). Anchored by Cory Smith with weather from meteorologist Somara Theodore. Includes a tribute package from Rieger's close friend Doreen Gentzler, and another unrelated report from Derrick Ward.
