Studio 31 Media Archive's video: WRSP Fox Illinois News at 9:00 Full 1 25 2022

Full-length 9pm newscast from the Fox affiliate serving Springfield, Illinois that's owned by GOCOM Media (and used to be owned by Bahakel before that but was effectively swapped around 2006 for WFXB - it's complicated) but is now operated by Sinclair. The station also covers Decatur and has a full-time satellite on channel 27, WCCU in Champaign-Urbana. Unlike the ABC stations which are entirely Springfield, that station has its own 5:30pm and 9pm shows produced out of the old WICD building using the same personnel that also produces KHQA's news. This newscast was recorded on Tuesday, January 25, 2022. Like the ABC product, there's not much more different about this, because it is the same team after all. The newscast has its own anchor that normally does not appear on WICS (but does fill-in there) and its own voiceover artist but is otherwise identical to WICS' product. As I've said before, I don't mind WICS' product, it's pretty good for the market but very Springfield-focused, which isn't necessarily their fault. No station really covers the entire market well for news and tends to cover their city of license best (WCIA has a bureau in Springfield but that is used more to cover state political issues and not daily spot and municipal news like WICS focuses on). They also have some very solid, young talent that deeply care about journalism who are all going to go on to do great things, which is more the exception than the norm, but I digress. They do like to go live for the sake of it and that's my biggest gripe. But it is one of the better Sinclair stations. One thing you'll notice is the station's lack of a reporter tagout, and that all reporter sign-outs are done as a "look live" or live in studio, so all reporters end up signing off as "back to you". This allows them to re-use the same package on four stations (WICS, WRSP, WCCU, and KHQA) without cutting a separate sign-off for each one. Kind of lazy but it also works. The graphics are the Sinclair standard and so is the music (composed by Warner Chappell Production Music). Voiceover is unknown but is the same guy used by various NPG stations like KVIA in El Paso. Also, I love the fact that they haven't bothered to update the YouTube channel bumper at 24:02, which features mentions of two people (Brittany Hardaway and Taylor Deckert) who aren't even with the station anymore! Anchored by Marcella Baietto, along with weather from chief meteorologist Cheryl Lehmke, and sports anchor Alessandra Pontbriand (the station's sole sports talent). Includes reports from Devin Trubey (two different), Matt Roy (same story live in-studio in 9 and 9:30 blocks; also a super cool guy and also leaving the station at the end of this month for a larger, yet-to-be announced market), Jordan Elder (two different - also one of the nicest people you'll ever find in TV), Jakob Emerson, Angela Brown (The National Desk), and Greg Palkot (Fox News).
