I enlisted in the U.S. Army in June 1968 right after high school where I served as a records clerk and worked in a message/mail center at Ft Jackson SC during the time when they shipped out our soldiers during the Vietnam war. From 1976-1978 then Staff Sergeant, I was assigned as a Drill Sgt, Co B lst Bn, Fort McClellan, Alabama from 1976-1978 where I supervised, trained, instructed and counseled a platoon of 40 woman basic trainees to become productive soldiers every seven weeks. (In 1978 they disbanded the Women's Army Corps and women were integrated into the regular army). As a Sergeant First Class I was then assigned as an Administrative supervisor at the lst Personal Command, in Heidelberg, Germany and then served as an Instructor (81-84) at the 7th Army Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Bad Tolez Germany. Upon return to the states I was then was assigned to the Instructor Management Division, Command and staff Dept, US Army Ordnance Center, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland from 81-84. Now a Master Sergeant, E-8, one of my last assignments was with the Equal Opportunity Office at Fort Benning Ga where she planed, and coordinated matters pertaining to the policy and administration of the Installation's Equal Opportunity and Race Relations Program. I retired June 30, 1988 after serving twenty years.
