dprjones's video: My last prayer - why religion does not scour

@My last prayer - why religion does not scour
To the best of my recollection I was 9 years old when I last prayed. I did pray for forgiveness for my doubts. I did ask for evidence for his existence. (Of course it was a "he"!) Mr Moody was my scripture teacher although the image used in this video is not him. He taught only the Christian god. It was some years later before I realised that there were other religions and other gods (both past and present). Mr Moody was 6 foot 6 inches tall (198cm). An imposing figure for a small child. Mr Moody was also the school scout master and almost certainly a paedophile, although his interference with me was mild. My description of parting with my god is as described. There was no struggle, no torment, no animosity. He was discarded with the ease in which you off load clothes you have grown out of, or a toy you have become bored of. The arguments advanced by some theists -- "you only deny god because you don't want to be responsible to him" -- or -- "you hate god" -- do not apply to me. I think that the concept of god is entirely manmade. I think that even a rudimentary understanding of how and why the human brain evolved (and why it evolved in the way it did) supports this. I also think that this it is supported by what we know from psychology and how the mind works. I do not think that any of these arguments presented in this video are novel or original. They are well known and have been around for many years. However, factual arguments alone clearly do not seem to work with the religious. I think psychological arguments could have a more significant part to play in productive exchanges with the religious.
