If you pick up a cue ball off the floor; never toss it to a pool player, take the extra few steps and hand it off to the next shooter. If you lob it at them, they may bobble it and bounce it on the floor a second time or straight up miss it and not catch it - it may hit the player, a bystander, something nearby that is breakable, or heaven forbid land on a table and contact an object ball. Whoever broke and shot the cue ball off the table is already embarrassed - so make sure to strike while the iron is hot and get a wisecrack off for everyone to hear
