This is a portrait that I painted for a memorial service.
Oil paint on canvas.

This is a time lapse portrait painted with oils over the course of 3 or so days. On the first day I do a quick version, covering the canvas with paint with the basic areas of color, and enough detail to make it look like a face. The next day I start to work on highlights and shadows and bring out the depth of the face. The third day I work on subtile shading and color and add the final touches of detail.
It helps to break up the painting into several days (even if you could finish it in one sitting) because the "problem areas" will be more obvious to you after some time away from the canvas.
