I 1925 ble øygruppa Svalbard i det nordlige Atlanterhavet en del av Norge. I filmen møter vi noen av dem som bor der. De er hovedsakelig gruvearbeidere. Området har også rike fiskebanker. Vi ser Svalbards natur og det arktiske dyre- og fugleliv. I Longyearbyen vises livet på kaia når vi post og varer komme med båt fra fastlandet. Fjellheisen frakter passasjerer og varer til gruvene, og taubanen frakter kullet fra gruvene til havna. In 1925 Svalbard, an archipelago in the Arctic Ocean, was incorporated into Norway. We meet some of the people living there. They are mainly miners, but the area also has rich fishing grounds. We see natural sights and arctic wildlife. In Longyearbyen we see the facilities, mail and supplies arriving by boat, and railway elevator that carries men and supplies to the mines. We also see the aerial cableway that carries coal from the mines to the harbour.
