Ex-LMS Jubilee 45596 'Bahamas' continued its rare foray down south with its much anticipated trip to Plymouth over the South Devon Banks. The 5XP is first seen strolling up Whiteball bank, steam having come on at Taunton, in a light morning drizzle. The next location was at Tigley, where the gradient eases from 1 in 52 to 1 in 90. Here the train is recovering from a check further down the bank near Totnes, testing the loco and crew with a very heavy unassisted 9 coaches in toe. The main event of the day had to be the fearsome Hemerdon bank, the unbroken 2 miles of 1 in 42 is a test for any loco. Nevertheless, 45596 crept over the crest of the climb with a minimum of just under 10 mph. Finally, 45596 catches some flattering evening Sun cruising eastwards up Whiteball near Tiverton to round off a good day.
