Stanley was once the principal port of North West Tasmania. Small ships sailed freight to Melbourne and brought back manufactured goods. They also traded to the small islands of the Hunter Group and King Island, taking out building supplies and bringing back livestock and mutton birds. The islanders have many stories to tell.
