geomorphdog's video: Science Vlog: Mobile Tracking Part 1

@Science Vlog: Mobile Tracking, Part 1
This is an edit of video footage taken in spring 2019 during three days of scanning Oak Creek in an effort to relocate 2600 pieces of PIT-tagged gravel placed in the stream in fall 2016 and fall 2018. The video shows me scanning more than 1200 meters of stream channel with an RFID reader. The video footage was timestamped, and the clocks on the RFID reader and the camera were synchronized. In the office, the times of detections logged by the reader were compared with the timestamps on the video, which records the along-stream distances, in order to compile a record of the new locations of the tracers in 2018. This record will then be compared to the previous locations of the tracers in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Note that this video provides a primary record of measurements used in active scientific research. As such, the scanning footage is included in its entirety (more than twelve hours), although much of it is sped up by a factor of 20 or more. Our project, and this video, were supported by the National Science Foundation, Geomorphology and Land-use Dynamics (EAR 1452091).
