@CTL 5c - Relict Population of Engelmann Spruce in Colorado (pt 2 of 2)
In this 2-part series, filmed 17 May 2017, at 9400-ft elevation about four miles north of Cripple Creek, Colorado, Connie Barlow walks through and video-documents the entire (small) relict population of cold-adapted Engelmann Spruce. Not surprisingly, the spruce occurs only very near the north and northeast-facing cliffs of a tall bedrock outcrop of billion+ year-old Colorado pink pegmatite. Along the way, she interprets and speculates on what she observes — especially as it pertains to the forces that are shrinking this already small, isolated population of spruce. The first part of this 2-part video documentation is at: https://youtu.be/Wi0f4ohCsa8 This video is part of Connie's "Climate, Trees, and Legacy" series, begun in 2014. The immediately relevant precursor video to this 2-part relict study is Episode 5a: "Rocky Mountain Trees in Climate Peril," accessible here: https://youtu.be/H1_usZ9E3d8 The entire annotated list of all videos in the Climate, Trees, and Legacy series is accessible here: http://thegreatstory.org/climate-trees-legacy.html
