There's a unique shame and brokenness associated with break-ups. Relationships and love may be celebrated more in the church than anywhere else because we (rightly) love the prospect of marriage so much. Sadly, these same convictions often make break-ups an uncomfortable conversation--at best, embarrassing and, at worst scandalous or humiliating. Part of the pain of a broken heart comes not only from the fear of being alone but also from the fear of feeling alone as if no one could possibly understand what you are experiencing.
