Divorce is the final and painful destination of a relationship that has broken down irretrievably. How and why that breakage happens is often a mystery. But both brokenness and mystery are sometimes made worst by the responses of religious communities AKA our churches. But few churches are positioned to effectively support members who are facing the prospect of a divorce, currently going through a divorce, or trying to heal from the impact of a broken marriage. There is a social stigma associated with divorce. It is a “mark of disgrace,” especially in the church community. We walk around with the proverbial scarlet "D" for "divorce" on our foreheads. It's the elephant in the room inside our churches that no one wants to talk about. Sadly, the people who are going to church facing this traumatic experience can't get any help because many are shunned because "how dare you get a divorce." In this video, I challenge our beliefs about divorce and our response to divorcees.
