Tests and trials have a way of pulling things out of us the good, the bad, and the downright ugly that we did not know was there or that we refused to acknowledge. Just like fire exposes the impurities in gold and refines it, God uses difficult circumstances to pull things that are not like Him out of us. He uses those things to refine our hearts. When we face difficult situations and become frustrated (many times accompanied by frustration's friends, impatience, and anger), it reveals what is in our hearts. You will find out that you are not as patient as you imagined. And as we mature in Christ, we can become even more susceptible to being caught in a loop of frustration because of the added responsibilities, complexities of life's problems, and repeated disappointments that can occur throughout our life.
