goldstandard$'s video: MISS DOROTHY KILGALLEN PLUGS ATLAS SHRUGGED 1957

[PLEASE READ] This is a rare, positive, contemporary plug for Ayn Rand’s masterwork. I would not be surprised if it was the only such plug the novel received on primetime American television at the time of its publication by Random House in September 1957. The plug was provided by journalist Dorothy Kilgallen, a panelist on the top-rated “WHAT’S MY LINE?” program in an episode which originally aired on September 22, 1957. Cynics will say Ms. Kilgallen, in mentioning the book, was just doing Bennett Cerf (Miss Rand’s publisher) a favor. That may be so, but I would argue that Dorothy—very intelligent and independent-minded—did not also have to give ATLAS such a glowing commendation (“one of the most exciting novels I’ve ever read…don’t miss it!”) or any commendation at all.
