@Neo A4 - One's Enough
Neo A4 Biography NEO A4 is: RIC JOHNSTON - Guitars, Lead Vocals JOHN TIDSWELL- Bass, Vocals JOEL ANDERSON - Drums, Vocals Theres a thread that runs through our music a viewpoint of the World both intellectual and emocional. Through all of our personal and musical changes it is this thread that keeps it all together, reflects JOHN TIDSWELL of Edmontons NEO A4. Rejecting the predominant cover band circuit RIC JOHNSTON, JOEL ANDERSON and JOHN TIDSWELL joined forces in 1982 to write and perform original songs. Initially the trio pf friends formed as an experimental project the main objective being freedom of expression to let their creative energies loose for the sheer pleasure of unrestricted playing. Eventually it because apparent that there was enough of a rapport musically and ideologically for them to make the commitment to become a working band. Intrigued by the philosophy of P.D. Ouspensky, Ric Johnston adopted the bands name from Ouspenskys theories about the fourth dimension symbolized by the term A4. NEO A4 emerged in 1983 as Edmontons most kudos alternative group. In 1984, they teamed up with producer RICK ERICKSON and released their EP. Whats Up sold out its initial pressing. Increasing respect and enthusiasm from their live audiences encouraged NEO A$ to record a full - length album. From the project?s inception, Rick Erickson both musically an lyrically. The result of their efforts was the 1985 album The Warmer Side Of You. Despite limited distribution, the album was greeted with critical praise as talented as each member of NEO A4 is, each appears to have restrained any impulse towards empty virtuosity in favour of a solid group concretion and sound, states James Adams of The Edmonton Journal. James Muretich of The Calgary Herald aptly describes the groups sound NEO A4s music doesnt explode upon the senses but rather draws attention slowly through a swirling blend of guitar, bass, synthesizer, and propulsive drumming. Voted # 1 in the best of 1985 Concerts by Valery Gregory of The Edmonton Sun and having received a nomination for a CASBY Award (Best New Group/Independent label), NEO A4 claimed further accolades by winning the Alberta Recording Industry Association Award for Best Group of The Year in 1986. In January 1987, NEO A4 was signed to Duke Street Records. Selected tracks fom The Warmer Side Of You have been re packaged as an introductory mini album entitled DESIRE. The Title song has been remixed by Chris Wardman and released as their first single. The supporting video was produced and directed by award Algis Maciulis (Chalk Circle, Jane Siberry, Scott Merrit). Relocated To Toronto, NEO A4 is currently working on material for their upcoming Duke Street album slated for release in the summer of 1987. Were a solid unit thats been together for five years, states John Tidswell. I cant think of many Canadian bands playing that long with their original members. Weve developed quite an interplay musically and a strong feeling for each other
