Sterling A. Brown, one of the twentieth century's preeminent American poets, reads "After Winter" in this edition of HoCoPoLitSo's Poetry Moment. A poet, folklorist, and a professor at Howard University for 40 years, Brown spent summers on a Howard County, Maryland, farm. This poem, with its farmer depicted as a scarecrow, was modeled after his father and his dreams of raising homegrown food for his family on that farm.
