@Michael Jordan 1981: First Ever TV Appearance, 15pts Vs. Rutgers
HOW TO BECOME A BETTER SCORER LIKE MJ: http://cli.gs/HowToScoreLikeMJ For my 100th upload, I thought it would be fitting to put up the game that started it all for me. This game is the reason why I started to record MJ's games and this game is the reason why my channel exists today. As a 9 yr. old in 1981 who had just discovered the awesome sport of basketball, I was hooked on the NY Knicks and Bernard King was my favorite player. Flipping through the TV that day, I stumbled across this game. It just happened to be the TV debut of Mike Jordan who I had never heard of. As I started watching, even though I was just a kid, I noticed that there was something different about a certain player wearing 23. He just appeared to move differently. Whether it was his obvious natural athleticism or his physical proportions, there seemed to be an extra gear within himself and a knack for making something routine seem spectacular. Perhaps it was because of the hangtime jumpers or double pump passes that were completely out of the norm for that time. Or, perhaps it was the fact that he was making plays that no one in the NBA seemed to be capable of doing. Whatever it was, I thought to myself, "this player looks like he's better than anyone ever". And from then on, I made an effort to record any games MJ was in so I wouldn't miss something spectacular. It was the beginning of my collection and as MJ became the greatest ever, I was grateful to have his entire career documented on my VCR from this moment on. While it would have been great to have had wide-HD telecasts back then, there is something raw about analog that is pure. Capturing that purity is all that matters.
