@Key Mistakes 🤔 and How to Avoid Them by IM Valeri Lilov
Key Mistakes and How to Avoid Them Do you ask yourself during a game "What should I do in the next move?" No matter if you are in the opening, middlegame or endgame. Don't knowing how to answer this question is the main cause of making mistakes! Quite often, after a game, you discover a mistake and don't look at it again. That way, you will continue doing them. But, perhaps, you are trying to improve your chess and you look at your mistakes to try to find a way to prevent them in future games. But, almost every amateur only sees the consequences of the mistakes, and not the causes of them. You need to fix the causes if you want a real improvement! That's the reason why IM Valeri Lilov record a new video focusing in these mistakes every chess player makes and how to avoid them! Enjoy this new video and improve your practical results in your next tournaments! Opening Mistakes If you don't know what to do in the opening, perhaps you think that you have to study more opening theory. This is a typical mistake every amateur make, and you must learn from them and don't keep making the same misstep. Long opening lines don't have to be memorized, unless you are a 2100+ player. Instead, you should focus in the 3 main rules of the opening: Develop all your pieces. Control the center. Put your king into safety. But these rules shouldn't be used with the closed eyes! How to develop your pieces? IM Lilov closely discusses this topic in the video, as the pieces should be developed to the right squares. Don't just think in your next move, but instead discover where do you want to develop your pieces in the next few moves. Think ahead!Key Mistakes and How to Avoid Them Let's look at the diagram of the right, a tabiya in the Catalan Opening. Black can play normal developing moves like 6...c6 7.Nc3 Nbd7. But, after arriving to this position, you would ask yourself "what should I do with my poor Bc8?". What Black did wrong is that he only thought about the development of his knight, but not about the complete development of the forces. So, What should Black play in this position? Black can find a good diagonal for his bishop with 6...dxc4 7.Qc2 a6!, with the idea of 8.Qxc4 b5 9.Ac2 Bb7, when Black has a good position. He would follow with ...Nbd7, ..Rc8 and ...c5, when he can't be worse (and perhaps he is even better). Another important mistake is to react badly when your opponent deviates from your known theory. Should you play as usual? Should you start to panic? Definitely not! Lilov advice you to calculate your next move, but from your opponent's side! Seeing the position from the other side will help you to discover the differences between the move you know and the new move. This is the most complex phase of the game, but some key tips can be share. If you have finished the development, still has to keep maneuvering with your pieces. Always look for better squares for your pieces. Improving the position of your pieces it's something that is always good for your position. As someone said, "your position is as bad as your worst-placed piece". But, if you want to start active operations, there is a key mistake that even masters make. You can love to attack your opponent's king, but you can't do it every time. You have to be active in the side of the board where you have more possibilities! Let's look the diagram position to make this point clear.Key Mistakes and How to Avoid Them 2 Where do you think Black should play? ► Discover the rest here: https://www.ichess.net/2017/10/14/key-mistakes-and-how-to-avoid-them/ ► Come checkout the iChess.net shop, we have the world’s largest collection of chess videos and chess courses: https://ichs.co/iChessShop ********** Other Videos from iChess ********** ► Subscribe to our main Youtube Channel: https://ichs.co/iChSubscribe ► Check out award winning Master Method video series: https://ichs.co/MasterMethod Checkout our most recent video: https://ichs.co/latest-chess-video ********** FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL: *********** Facebook: https://ichs.co/iChessFB Twitter: https://ichs.co/iChessTwitter YouTube: https://ichs.co/iChSubscribe ********** Our Other YouTube Channels *********** iChess Ch 2: https://ichs.co/iChess2 iChess en español: https://ichs.co/iChessESP
