Erstwhile Finnish airline Blue1 operated a total fleet of nine Avro RJ 85 and 100 series aircraft from 2004 until 2013. The high-wing and t-tailed aircraft is easily distinguishable. Four engines are mounted underneath the main wings. Unlike other passenger jet aircraft Avro RJ jets do not have reverse thrust engines. Air brakes deployed at the rear end of the fuselage are more effective for this aircraft which can also perform steep descends into airports. Landing at airports with shorter runways is also possible due to a lower than usual touchdown speed (ca 90 knots). BAE Systems / Avro International Aerospace manufactured a total of 394 BAe 146 (first generation)/ Avro RJ regional jets which were delivered to customers between 1983 and 2002.
