jan-arend van Boeijen's video: South India Kerala visiting Kochi Cochin

@South India, Kerala. visiting Kochi (Cochin)
In January-February 2023, after several years of forced absence due to the covid epidemic, we were finally able to visit our beloved India again. We make an extensive tour through South India; the states of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The trip was organized by our special friend in India, Samar Pradhan (Email: bubu@heritagetoursorissa.com / yugabrat@gmail.com). South India is breathtaking. Famous for its fantastic UNESCO World Heritage Sites, varied cuisines, verdant landscapes and cosmopolitan cities. South India is a rhapsody in green. On this tour you will discover the many facets of this region: from the beautiful temples, ancient folk art with the power to be exciting, a surprisingly rich Jewish history, impressive panoramic views of lush hill stations, interactions with the locals and of course the scenic backwaters . In this video report we share some images of our visit to Kochi. Kochi, also known as Cochin is famous for its historical significance, diverse culture, and beautiful landscapes. Some of its attractions include the Chinese fishing nets. In this video we show images of the fishing nets, the Kathakali performance of Narakasuravadha and a Kalarippayattu demonstration. Kathakali is a traditional dance-drama form that originates from the state of Kerala in India. It's famous for its elaborate makeup, vibrant costumes, intricate hand gestures, and expressive facial movements. Kathakali performances often depict stories from Hindu epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata, using a unique combination of dance, music, and acting to convey emotions . This video presents parts of the story Narakasuravadham (Killing of Narakasura). The performance revolves around the story of Narakasura, a vicious demon and Jayantha, the valorous son of Lord Indra (King of Gods). Nakrathundi, Narakasura’s sister gets attracted to Jayantha and approaches him in the guise of Lalitha, a beautiful woman. Jayantha rejects her love and the disappointed demoness takes her normal form and attacks him. He injures her and a shocked Narakasura vows to take revenge, only to find himself punished for his wrongs. Kalarippayattu is an ancient Indian martial art. It is one of the oldest fighting systems in existence and is known for its comprehensive approach to combat training, which includes physical exercises, weaponry, strikes, kicks, grappling, and healing techniques. Kalarippayattu also emphasizes flexibility, coordination, and self-discipline, and it has influenced various martial arts practices worldwide. Jan-Arend van Boeijen, www.travelbyphoto.nl
