Japanese American National Museum's video: Unboxed: Compact Shelves

Compact shelves are a common sight in collections storage at many museums, including JANM. Built on tracks, these rolling shelves, controlled by a fixed rotary handle, maximize storage space in our two-story, 7,200 square foot artifact storage facility. With the largest collection of Japanese American material culture in the world, the compact shelving area consists of 41 aisles and houses the majority of our 150,000 artifacts, including our photography and archival collections as well as textiles and large 3 dimensional artifacts.
