There is, no warning, no hint, and it's completely randomized for which chest is actually a mimic (I'm calling it a mimic, but not even Dark Souls mimics fuck you over this badly). If there is ever a sequel, please snap these things out of existence Capcom. It's not cool, fun, or clever. It's just the game saying "Oh, you want to loot this chest after clearing out all the enemies like you've done a hundred times before? Then you have chosen death, but we're also gonna give you false hope by letting you struggle, and it looks like after ten seconds of you destroying your controler along with your hand, you've almost got your struggle bar full, but unfortunately for you, YOU'RE ALREADY DEAD!!! Hope you're carrying plenty of wake stones, 'CAUSE WE'RE GONNA MAKE YOU BURN THROUGH THEM LIKE DRY GRASS ON THE 4TH OF JULY!!! WHY?! Because FUCK YOU, THAT'S WHY!".
