Entering their fifth year of collaboration, Jean Claude Jitrois and Rankin revisit the Fauvist influence of the 1930's. An evolution of the previous campaigns, this new Jitrois opus preserves the same sense of dynamism, while focusing on representing the brand through characters inspired by the neo-film noir genre. Where Tony Scott and David Lynch meet, the Jitrois' A/W 2011-12 campaign is a tribute to Vita Sackville-West's novel, Dark Island. Everything is suggested: sensual tension between characters is perceived rather than revealed. As the narrative unfolds, characters evolve - Tuuli Shipster, femme fatale, a symbol of triumphant femininity; Kelsea Van Mock and Madeleine Kulicka, mysterious women from an Henri Georges Clouzot film; and William Eustace, the dark boy, object of greed. The fifth character of this "huis-clôs", is the majestic Eltham Palace itself -- strengthening the drama. This art deco masterpiece is awonder of marquetry. The interior décor works to highlight the mood, without ever overpowering the clothes. The cardinal red, fuschia, and emerald flashes, serve to emphasise the femininity inherent in the campaign. The regal, statuesque poise of the models - inspired by the fashions of the 1950's - combines with a nonchalant East London attitude. Within this mysterious atmosphere, we make our own minds up. Jean Claude Jitrois and Rankin once again masterfully carve the image of a multi-faceted woman -- ambivalent, aloof, fascinating. We are left intrigued.
