Jim Dunne's video: Metallica - Orion - Cover all original recording

@Metallica - Orion - Cover (all original recording)
This is my new cover of Metallica's Orion. I got a new guitar! EBMM JP6 BFR :-D. She's a beauty! UPDATE!! (11/23/2011) Even newer remix and remastered version (much louder with better drum mix and guitar mix): http://bittwiddlers.org/ftp/jim/recordings/Orion11%20-%20mix%206%20-%20master.mp3 (11/19/2011) Newer mastered and remix (less harsh and less low end, remixed with diff EQ on guitars): http://bittwiddlers.org/ftp/jim/recordings/Orion11%20-%20mix%205%20-%20master.mp3 (11/17/2011) New mastered mix: http://bittwiddlers.org/ftp/jim/recordings/Orion11%20-%20mix%204%20-%20master.mp3 OLD MP3 (direct mix from the video): http://bittwiddlers.org/ftp/jim/recordings/Orion11%20-%20mix%203.mp3 Gear settings: RHYTHM: LD2 YELLOW (G 5.5, T 8.0, M 3.5, B 3.5, D 6.5, M 10, P 0, DV 0) LEAD: LD2 GREEN (G 6.5, T 5.5, M 9.0, B 4.0, D 5.5, M 10, P 0, DV 0) gain was at 5.0 for the intro lead at 3:00; 6.5 for all other leads. BASS: RHY YELLOW (G 6.5, T 5.5, M 9.0, B 4.0, M 4.0, P 0, DV 0) BASS DISTORTED: LD1 YELLOW (G 6.5, T 5.5, M 9.0, B 4.0, D 6.0, M 4.0, P 0, DV 0) The signal chain for the guitar sound is simply the guitar direct into TriAxis direct into audio interface. The effects bin per each track is slightly different depending on the part played. Rhythm guitar has a Sonitus:fx EQ followed by Voxengo PristineSpace using Keiffer Impulse (freely available online). Lead guitar has a Sonitus:fx Delay followed by PristineSpace using Keiffer Impulse . Harmony guitars (primarily after 4:22) have only PristineSpace using Keiffer Impulse . Bass guitar has a Sonitus:fx Compressor (9:1 ratio and a low threshold) followed by PristineSpace using Keiffer Impulse . Bass leads have only PristineSpace using Keiffer Impulse . As you can see, TriAxis + Voxengo PristineSpace using the Keiffer Impulses makes up the body of the guitar sound. There's not much else going on other than some light EQ adjustments to make things sit well in the mix. Software: Audio: SONAR Producer 8.3.1 with Voxengo PristineSpace and Superior Drummer v2.0 Video: Adobe Premiere CS5 Gear: Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci 6 BFR guitar (extremely sexy) Dunlop 1.14mm Tortex black picks (pretty nice) Ibanez SoundGear 5-string bass with active pickups (fairly decent bass) Planet Waves cables (meh; kinda crackly and sensitive to microphonics) MESA/Boogie TriAxis v1.0 preamp (pretty nice; want to snag a Mark V soon) JVC Everio HDD 20GB video camera (total crap; hard to set focus correctly and has a crap view screen) Roland EDIROL UA-1000 audio interface (still rock solid but probably time for an upgrade; drivers tend to cause BSoDs) Yamaha HS80M powered monitor speaker pair Samsung LNT4066FX/XAA 40" HDTV Home-built AMD Phenom II X4 810 @ 2.60GHz running Windows 7 x64
