khankonchak's video: Mario Lanza- I ll Be Seeing You Fain-Kahal

@Mario Lanza- I'll Be Seeing You (Fain-Kahal)
Mario Lanza (January 31, 1921- October 7, 1959) "I'll Be Seeing You" (Fain-Kahal). Recorded for the May 2, 1952, broadcast of "The Mario Lanza Show", with studio orchestra conducted by Ray Sinatra. It seems hard to believe that it has now been almost a half century since Lanza's inimitable voice was silenced at the tragically young age of 38. October 7 marked the 49th year since his passing, and I thought that perhaps a Youtube memorial tribute might be in order. The song I have selected seems to me somehow appropriate to the occasion: Sammy Fain's 1938 Broadway hit "I'll Be Seeing You". Having heard this ballad mauled by countless crooners, I have to say that it was never a favorite of mine...until I heard Lanza's evergreen rendition, which bears the hallmarks of his best work in the popular song genre: loads of romantic feeling, unaffected delivery, scrupulous attention to matters of shading and nuance, exemplary diction, and a wholehearted belief in the music and words. The glorious climactic B-flat at the end of the phrase "...and when the night is new", followed by the soft mezza voce of "I'll be looking at the moon", affects me deeply, and I'm sure many listeners will feel the same.
