@Garuda Indonesia GA7534/ATR 72 Flight from Pontianak to Sintang | West Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo
Garuda Indonesia’s GA7534/ATR 72 flight from Pontianak Supadio International Airport to Sintang Tebelian Airport in West Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo. The flight duration was 40 minutes. Supadio International Airport (Indonesian Bandar Udara Internasional Supadio) (PNK/WIOO), formerly known as Sei Durian Airport or Sungai Durian Airport, serves as the main point of entry to West Kalimantan, Indonesia. Tebelian Airport (Indonesian Bandar Udara Tebelian) (SQG/WIOS) is an airport located in the Sungai Tebelian district of the Sintang Regency of West Kalimantan, Indonesia. The airport replaced the functions Susilo Airport. The airport is located 14 kilometers from the Sintang city center. Besides the Sintang Regency, the airport also serves the Melawi Regency, Sekadau Regency, Sanggau Regency and the Kapuas Hulu Regency. Kalimantan is the Indonesian part of the island of Borneo. It covers 73% of the island's area. The non-Indonesian parts of Borneo are Brunei and East Malaysia or Malaysian Borneo. Malaysian Borneo is divided into the states of Sabah and Sarawak. In Indonesia, ’Kalimantan’ refers to the whole island of Borneo. Borneo is the world’s third largest island, and a place of one millionyear-old rainforests, wetland mangroves, high mountains, white sandy beaches and bustling biodiversity. Borneo is home to some of the planet’s most ancient rainforests. The forests of Borneo, home to proboscis monkeys, sun bears, orangutans, clouded leopards, hornbill birds, Borneo pygmy elephants and flying fox bats, are among the world’s most biodiverse ecosystems. But in the last century, this enormous island has lost a significant portion of its forests to fire, illegal logging and the expansion of palm oil and pulpwood plantations. This is threatening the endemic flora and fauna as well as the livelihoods of indigenous communities. The city of Pontianak (Kota Pontianak) is the capital of West Kalimantan, the western half of the Indonesian portion of the island of Borneo. Pontianak is a common entry point and portal for visitors to West Kalimantan. The city of Pontianak has a population of about 670,000. In Indonesian and Malaysian folklore, the pontianak is a ghost who eats her victims alive, said to be the spirit of a woman who died in childbirth. The story goes that the city of Pontianak used to be a nest for these ghosts until the former sultan arrived and founded the city. Pontianak was founded first as a trading port on the island of Borneo. It was initially a sultanate, established half of the 18th century. The founder father of the sultanate was Syarif Abdurrahman. Pontianak City itself was founded in 1771 along the mouth of the Kapuas and Landak rivers. The Pontianak city is on the equator, hence it is widely known as Kota Khatulistiwa (Equatorial City). The city center is less than 3 kilometres (2 mi) south of the equator. The Sintang Regency is one of the few Indonesian regencies having a land border with other countries. It is also the second largest regency in the province by land area after Landak Regency. The regency was formerly the site of the Sintang Kingdom, a Hindu kingdom that later converted to Islam and which was a regional power in the interior of Borneo Island. The regency seat is located at the large town of Sintang, which is among the biggest settlements in Borneo's interior alongside Putussibau and Puruk Cahu. The Sintang city is situated on the border of Indonesia-Malaysia. The city is accessible by air and land from Pontianak, the capital of West Kalimantan Province. It takes about 9 hours drive from Pontianak to Sintang or 45 minutes by air. Sintang derives from Dayak langauage , ‘senentang’ means the meeting point of two rivers, Kapuas and Melawi River.
