@Lao Airlines ATR-72-500 Flight from Pakse (PKZ) to Vientiane’s Wattay Airport (VTE) | Laos
Lao Airlines RDPL-34173 / ATR-72-500 (72-212A) flight from Pakse International Airport (PKZ) to Vientiane’s Wattay International Airport (VTE) in Laos in the early 2010s. Pakse (or Pakxe; French: Paksé; Laotian: ປາກເຊ 'mouth of the river'; Thai: ปากเซ) is the capital and most populous city of the southern Laotian province of Champasak. Located at the confluence of the Xe Don and Mekong Rivers, it has a population of about 95,000. Pakse was the capital of the Kingdom of Champasak until it was unified with the rest of Laos in 1946. Pakse is the gateway to the Bolaven Plateau, as well as to the southern provinces of Salavan, Sekong, and Attapeu. Pakse International Airport (IATA: PKZ, ICAO: VLPS) is one of the few international airports in Laos. The most popular routes connect Pakse to Vientiane, Siem Reap, Ho Chi Minh City, Luang Prabang and Siem Reap. The Pakse Airport is situated around 3 km (2 mi) north of Pakse,. It is operated by the Military of Laos / Civil Aviation Authority. The Pakse airport terminal is designed to mimic the Lan Xang-style architecture used for Buddhist temples in Laos. The flight time from Pakse to Vientiane is about 1 hour. The flight distance is about 470 km (290 mi). Vientiane’s Wattay International Airport (IATA: VTE, ICAO: VLVT) is the main international gateway in Laos. It is located 3 km (2 mi) outside of the city center in Sikhodtabong District, Vientiane Prefecture. The airport is operated by the Lao Airport Authority (LAA) and serves as a hub for Lao Skyway, Lao Central Airlines and Lao Airlines. The Lao Air Force also operates an installation at one end of the airport. Vientiane (Lao: ວຽງຈັນ, Viangchan. Wiangchan, the 'walled city of sandalwood') is the capital and largest city of Laos. Comprising the five urban districts of Vientiane Prefecture, the city is located on the banks of the Mekong, right at the border with Thailand. Vientiane was the administrative capital during French rule and is the economic center of Laos. The Vientiane urban area has a population of about 700,000. Vientiane is the home of the most significant national monuments such as Pha That Luang, a national symbol of Laos and an icon of Buddhism in Laos. Other significant Buddhist temples can be found there as well, such as Haw Phra Kaew, which formerly housed the Emerald Buddha.
