I thought the whole world should hear how good this OST genuinely is. All rights go to John Russo, & Independent International Pictures. Not to mention of course the artists Paul McCollough/Quintessence. Lastly for most of the images, both Arrow Video & Severed Cinema as they put out a great release. Plus did a really good job at doing so! Wanted to include all kinds of miscellaneous stuff besides posters, screen grabs, concept artwork, production stills, etc. The film was released theatrically in the US on December 31, 1982. Starring Melanie Verlin, Lawrence Tierney, John Amplas, Greg Besnak, Robin Walsh, Charles Jackson, John Hall, Lachele Carl, Bob Johnson, David Marchick, & Ellie Wyler. https://www.discogs.com/Quintessence-5-Paul-McCollough-Midnight-Original-Soundtrack/release/6674220 Special Thanks to fellow youtuber Otto Rivers for providing the ultra rare French VHS trailer and scans. Also thanks to Grindhouse Theater for proving the HD American Trailer for this lost gem. I couldn't have done it without you guys! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKZxTWPCrm2cRc9G40Emw4Q https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCN9G_2QwnWgS4vd-jGEyU7A I wanted to make a tribute video consisting of the full soundtrack (ripped straight from vinyl by me) for one of the most horribly underrated and underappreciated Independent cult Horror gems of all time... that being John Russo's Midnight AKA The Backwoods Massacre (1982). It is based on Russo's 1980 novel of the same name, published by Pocket Books. The soundtrack alone is a rare, sought-after collector's item in itself. Needless to say it's also quite fucking good, so I present the OST here in it's glorious entirety. I honestly put a lot of effort into this & have been working on it for the past few months so I hope you like it. It's not your run-of-the-mill Slasher film to say the least. Instead it is an obscure, low-budget mix of Satanic/Occult, Backwoods Horror, and pure Grindhouse/Exploitation. Given the budget was only $45,000 total, I was pleasantly surprised by Midnight. Not only is it incredibly bleak, somber, disturbing and rather mean-spirited but the movie is also equally eerie as well as poignant to say the least. The film was shot on location outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and features special effects by Tom Savini. While not prosecuted for obscenity, the film was seized and confiscated in the UK under Section 3 of the Obscene Publications Act 1959 during the Video Nasty panic. The region 1 DVD release from Lion's Gate is two and half minutes longer than the original release. Several scenes of extra violence are in this version. The UK video version was pre-edited before release and removed the opening sequence where a girl is caught in a trap & battered to death by a group of youngsters. The original conclusion shot for the film had the crazed family getting away with the murders. However the distributors demanded that the film be re-shot with a less downbeat ending. A different conclusion, with Nancy killing the villains, was shot & appears in the theatrical version. There was little time for the re-shoots to be done, so that's why the finale of the film seems rushed and abrupt. The audio is ripped directly from is the recent, remastered, limited edition reissue by Motionsound on 180 gram Blue Transparent vinyl of 500 copies only. Originally recorded at the Sound Castle (1982/2014). 1/4" tape transfers done at Tree Lady Studios. This issue has been completely remastered/remixed from the original 1/4" & 1/2" eight track reels, retaining all the original elements but now with brand new additional production performed in 2014 by Quintessence. Three extra background music synthesizer sound effect tracks from the movie which were performed by Paul McCollough are also included, these tracks were not present on the 1982 Traq release. Quintessence is a band formed by Michael, Edith, Francine, Terese and Loretta Mazzei. Additional background music and sound effects by Paul McCollough. Contrary to what it says on IMDB, most of that info is wrong for some reason. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_(1982_film)
