Today I want to talk about your to-do list. This is where I keep mine. People are often surprised that I keep it in paper form, but I do. I have a list here and I like to write my things down and cross them off. When I'm looking at my list, most of the time, as you do as well, I see them as need to and have to. That's okay. We're going to have need to things and have to things. But what I want to talk to you about today is the want to things and the get to things. I want us to start looking at the need to and have to items, and deciding whether maybe those really are get to. Sometimes when I'm in my better frames of mind I remember to refer to my list as a get to do list. Everything that I need to do in my life essentially is a product of the lifestyle I've chosen. I have made a choice of everything I've done every second of my life to get where I am today, and I like my life. Yes, I may have some things to maintain and work on, I have to get my car oil changed. But I get to get my car oil changed because I own a car, and it runs, and I'm going to keep it running. That's really nice to have a car available whenever I need to drive it. I'm sure you can think of many examples of things that you need to do with your kids and then you think, "Hey wait. I get to do these things with my kids. It's wonderful. My kids are happy and healthy and so am I." Let's first think about those get to do items instead of the need tos and have tos. Then I want you to think about the want to in terms of what are the items you're not writing down that you want to do but you're not doing. Maybe they're self-care items like exercise, eating better. Maybe it's something fun you want to do. You want to see a concert. You want to walk in the park more often. What are those want to things that are not ending up on your list? I want you to create a special list of want to items today, and make sure those get checked off just like your other items get checked off. If you're needing to free up some time, I have a free report available for you, 30 Ways to Find Time to Get Organized. That will help you find time for other things too in your life by the way. You can find out more about that at http://www.clutterdiet.com/freetips. See you next time and may you always be happy and grateful for having more than enough.
