'Love Changes' was officially released on her 2001 album 'Trouble in Shangri-La', which was critically acclaimed and considered a successful comeback after the commercial failure of 'Street Angel'. It can be assumed that this song is indeed about Lindsey, as Stevie said most of the songs on this album were. This song is about, again, the breakdown of her relationship with Lindsey, and, again, about how she "changed," a running theme in her songs and specifically this album. Also, the idea that she did indeed love him despite the fact that she left him is found in many of her other songs as well, like Silver Springs. As Stevie herself has said,"As far as I'm concerned, Lindsey's the one who made me stop loving him". This gives us a glimpse of the fundamental problem - she must "say what he wants to hear", he's the one in control and she can't stand it. Even though she knows he loves her, it wasn't enough to make up for her feeling of powerlessness.
