Why is the US sending its troops to finish off a fractured band of bush fighters in the middle of Africa? Political payback for the quiet sacrifices of Uganda's troops in Somalia could be one reason. President Barack Obama announced Friday he is dispatching about 100 US troops, mostly special operations forces to central Africa to advise in the fight against the Lord's Resistance Army, a guerrilla group accused of widespread atrocities across several countries. In this edition of the show we ask; is it the thin end of the wedge? The Lord's Resistance Army began life in the early 1980's as the Holy Spirit Movement, led by a woman called Alice Lakwena who claimed the Holy Spirit had ordered her to overthrow the Ugandan government, which was accused of treating the Acholi people of the North unfairly. As resentment towards the Ugandan government intensified, supporters flocked to Lakwena and the Holy Spirit movement gathered momentum, until a battle won by the government led to Lakwena's exile & are now no longer a threat. The Ugandan people are extremely suspicious of the Governments motives & suspect an ulterior agenda. At the last elections the present government was accused of vote tampering. This led to discontent & the army gaining more power.
