Because 8-year-old Sophia battles a neuromuscular disorder that makes her muscles degenerate and become weak, she is unable to lift more than few pounds at a time. Although she has always wanted a puppy, she never thought her wish would be possible because once the puppy is full size she could not care for it anymore. Her wish to have a Teacup Pomeranian was just what she needed. Sophia’s new pup is the perfect pint-size companion because even when she is full-grown, she will only weigh three pounds. Sophia named her new friend Winnie because, “Winnie sounds like winner and she is a winner since she now has a new family that will love her so much.” Sophia’s mother said, “I’m about to cry because the joy Make-A-Wish brings to a child’s life is amazing. It’s priceless. The world is upside down and now we have this joy. It’s hope. No words can really describe it!” Sophia recently moved from Brazil to South Florida. Making new friends is challenging because she is shy and still learning English. Winnie will be a friend that will unconditionally love Sophia, and the two can shower each other with love and attention. Sophia can hardly believe that Winnie is hers forever.
