The intrepid swimmers were preparing for a gruelling race across the Bering Strait on August 6. The race, which starts at Chukotka, is held across a 86 km stretch of water between Russia and the USA. The water temperature is about 4-8 C. A total of 97 sportsmen from 17 countries, including China, the US, Russia and Argentina will take part in the race, which does not allow the use of any special equipment - including flippers. The competitors plan to swim 20 minutes each in the relay before changing.
