XVIIth century in France was known as the Grand Siecle. It was Louis XIV century, the most magnificent period in french history when France surpassed Spain as the first power in Europe and established its cultural domain. Franch fashion and its craftsmanship products were imitated everywhere. The work of writers such as Racine, Moliere and La Fontaine became the standard in literature and the french became the language of the cultured people in Europe, spoken by the german princes, by the russian nobility and used in the international treaties.
