He was only 10 years old when he was 1st abused by Crewe Alexandra 's youth team coach Bennell. Monaghan escaped Bennell's clutches when he moved from Crewe to Manchester United at 14. Signed by United and captained Wales at three different age groups, Monaghan had the football world at his feet. But, he only lasted two months as a professional, unable to cope with anxiety. He walked out after a row with United's youth coach. Only now will Sir Alex Ferguson be able to understand why he was unable to make transition from gifted youth to his 1st team. With his career and childhood being stolen, the ex-Wales youth international now works nights as a machine cleaner in a factory.
