The Department of Commerce and Industries is Nodal Department for overall development of industrial sector in the state. The department plays developmental & facilitation role to attract industrial investments in the state. It focuses on creating an industry friendly environment and formulating suitable policies in the state aimed at propelling fast pace modernisation & strengthening of the industrial units. The department provides an interactive platform for synergistic coordination between investors and the Government. The department constitutes of five bodies in form of agency/boards/corporation, which enable the smooth transition of investors in the state. The five bodies are The Directorate of Industries State Industrial Promotion Board Boiler Inspectorate Registrar Firms & Societies Chhattisgarh State Industrial Development Corporation Chhattisgarh has been well-known for its cement plants, steel plants and rice mills. Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur and Korba are the principal districts in the field of industrial expansion in Chhattisgarh. The Bhilai Steel Plant in Durg district ensues to be the major incorporated steel plant of India. The institution of Bhilai Steel Plant in the 1950’s led to the expansion of an extensive range of industries at Bhilai and Raipur. Raipur has got an exceptional characteristic of having the largest number of big and small-scale cement plants. Durg and Bilaspur districts, in addition are home to several large - scale cement plants.
