my mechanics insights's video: Domed Cap Nut - How it s made DIY

In this video you can watch me making a domed cap nut from scratch. I started with a round bar and milled a hexagon on it. Then I moved over to the lathe and turned the domed cap first with a HSS form tool with the needed radius. After parting it off I was able to clamp it on the short cylindrical part of the dome in a collet. I then first turned the face clean and drilled and tapped the hole in it for the thread. To get a very nice finish I also sanded the hexagon clean with 240 grit at the end. I intentionally made this nut for the coffee grinder restoration as replacement part, because the original nut was very ugly. I later changed my mind and still restored the original one. So I ended up not using the new one, but I thought I could still share the recorded footage of me making it with you guys. I hope you like my work and the video.
