You want obscure? Then this is for you! In fact, this 7-a-side 'indoor cricket' tournament is so obscure that I can not find any reference to it on the internet. Those of us familiar with Australian-style indoor cricket will quibble that it is even indoor cricket at all and that it is simply a bastardised English version (Ed: am I even allowed to say 'bastardised' on YouTube?) of outdoor cricket played within four walls. Anyway, you'll see. It was a four-county tournament with Hampshire and Sussex losing out in the semi-finals and was played at The Brighton Centre. UK television coverage was provided by the TVS franchise (Television South) who were to be superseded by Meridian. The reason for the event's obscurity may partly lie with a limited regional broadcast. The experiment does not seem to have been repeated (unless you know better?). My best guess is that the Wadham Stringer sponsors were a coachbuilding company based in Hampshire who specialised in ambulances. The presenter is Fred Dineage and the commentators are Neil Durden-Smith and Bob Willis. As for the players? Has to be said - it's a quality line-up. Kent : Chris Cowdrey, Graham Dilley, Richard Ellison, Asif Iqbal, Alan Knott, Chris Tavare & Derek Underwood. Essex : David East, Graham Gooch, Brian Hardie, John Lever, Alan Lilley (watch for the scoreboard spelling!), Ken McEwan & Stuart Turner. If you can bear it, there are even brief post-match interviews with some of the players (but not brief enough!). If anyone can add to this limited sum total of knowledge for this event, post away!
