I’ve spoken about celebrity deaths a bit in the past, and in general terms I couldn’t really settle on a conclusion as to how much or how little it’s “appropriate” to mourn a celebrity’s passing. Also, who the hell am I to make the judgement anyway? However, I do remember when Paul Walker died feeling nothing but absolute shock. He was a young man undoubtedly in his prime and died in the most morbidly ironic of circumstances, it was just surreal. I mean whatever about whether or not it’s excessive to mourn a celebrity as though they were a loved one or an acquaintance, who couldn’t but feel saddened and stunned at such a tragedy? Walker was of course in production on the 7th instalment in the “Fast and the Furious” series and whether you love those movies or hate them (spoiler - you should love them for exactly what they are!), there was a tension ahead of its release. This came from knowing that Walker was still going to feature in the film and through the wonders of modern technology and his brothers serving as stand-ins there was even going to be footage of “him” shot after his demise. For the most part, the filmmakers put together a touching tribute to his legacy and very respectfully let his character gracefully exit the franchise. All of course scored to this song. As send-offs go, this song is right up there with the best. Ordinarily I’d only be drawn to the sung portions of a song like this, paying little mind to the rapped verses. Not this one though and as a result transcribing it to a fully sung song was actually pretty easy. It did however mean I had to drop some lyrics in order to fit everything into the verses and believe me when I say I HATE doing that, but trust that it was only done with good intentions!
