niceandgames's video: Neo Geo X Gold Limited Edition unboxing first impression rambling

@Neo Geo X Gold Limited Edition unboxing/first impression/rambling
The Neo Geo X Gold X Limited X Gold Edition Neo Neo Neo is here! Manufactured by Tommo with the SNK license of awesome, this is a combination handheld system and docking station. It is fairly nice. The hardware itself seems nice to me. Everything feels solid. The handheld is comfortable, the buttons feel nice, and the joystick is a nice clicky little stick that works well. I do wonder if this system is just a rebranded version of some other handheld, as it has L1, L2, R1 and R2 buttons that don't seem too useful for Neo Geo games. In fact, the L1 and L2 buttons change the screen aspect ratio, and the R1 and R2 buttons pause the game. Also, it is widescreen, and I suppose some people might want to play the games stretched out, but the proper aspect ratio is 4:3, so when using it like that, it's pillarboxed all in your face. The screen quality is decent though, motion is smooth, but it isn't exactly crisp looking, presumably because it is upscaling from the games native resolution. It is not THAT bad honestly, but sometimes I look at it and think, hmmm, something is off here. For example, I think Metal Slug Advance on my GBA looking sharper than Metal Slug on the Neo Geo X. I would guess that is because Metal Slug Advance is at the same resolution as the GBA screen. The docking station is sturdy, and the arcade stick is quite nice. Tommo said it uses the exact same parts as the original Neo Geo stick, and while I can't prove that, it sure feels like my real Neo Geo AES stick. The joystick is precise and nice and clicky, and the buttons feel good. It is also the exact same size as the original. The only difference I noticed was the font used for the lettering around the buttons. But why do I talk so much here. You can see game footage recorded via the composite out in the video above. I actually prefer the composite out on a CRT to using the HDMI out. But that is just me. Too bad it doesn't have a better analog out than composite. I don't think this would replace the real thing for a Neo Geo aficionado. I'm not really sure it replaces quality emulations like the various SNK collections released on the PS2, etc. But it is a nice collectable at least. If Tommo comes through with more games for it, then it will be cool as a gaming platform. So come through Tommo! Come through! Release the Metal Slug Collection on a game card, King of Fighters, etc. And make sure the games come in proper plastic cases. :) Oh, and here's the list of preloaded games on the console. This Limited Edition set also contains the title Ninja Master's (yes, apostrophe S) on a separate game card: 3 Count Bout Alpha Mission II Art of Fighting Baseball Stars 2 Cyber-Lip Fatal Fury Fatal Fury Special The King of Fighters '95 King of the Monsters Last Resort League Bowling Magician Lord Metal Slug Mutation Nation Nam 1975 Puzzled Real Bout - Fatal Fury Special Samurai Shodown II Super Sidekicks World Heroes Perfect If I get around to it, I might make a comparison video of some games on the Neo Geo X to the same games on real hardware. If I get around to it. If. lol Oh and I'd never played World Heroes Perfect before recording the quick footage in this video so yes I know I suck, you don't have to tell me. I mean, you can if you want, but I already know that.
