Jimmie Johnson knows how to drive a car, but can he drive a game? Yes, he sure can. This is Jimmie Johnson's Anything With An Engine for the Xbox 360. It's also available for the PS3, and soon (November 15, 2011) for the Wii. While Jimmie Johnson is a top driver on the NASCAR circuit, this game is not related to that racing league. At all. It takes it's inspiration from Mario Kart, although this game is grittier. But not gritty. Just gritty compared to Mario Kart. :) It was originally intended to be an XBLA / PSN game, but I'm glad it was released on an actual disc, and at half the normal price of a new 360 game. Jimmie Johnson's AWAE features a lot of great tracks, and a variety of karts made out of dumpsters, bathtubs, and other objects. The handling is quite good, a little tighter than I thought, I actually expected it to be very loose, but it is not. Just responsive and controllable. It even can display in 3D on 3D capable televisions, and also has old-timey anaglyph 3D if you've got a paid of red/cyan glasses sitting around. It has online play, though honestly I wasn't able to find another player to test it out. Hopefully more people get the game and give it a try! The Wii version will NOT have online play. All in all, this game wasn't actually as wacky and over-the-top as I expected, but it definitely provides some good old-fashioned kart racing. Nothing groundbreaking, just good solid fun!
